Biodiesel is non-toxic, biodegradable diesel fuel made from vegetable oils and animal fats. It can be used straight in any diesel engine, or mixed with petroleum diesel at any percentage, and is being used in thousands of engines currently. Biodiesel is renewable solar fuel, grown and produced in the United States, and it reduces our dependence on foreign oil today. To learn more about Biodiesel view our slideshow presentation (coming soon!). Why do we call it the Solar Fuel? Solar energy is collected in plants. Plants use a process called photosynthesis to turn solar energy and carbon dioxide into living tissue. These plants are pressed for oils, and plant oils make up 90% of the raw material for biodiesel. Recycled grease Biodiesel is made from oil from plants, which is used in a restaurant, and then reused to make Biodiesel. According to the Alternative Fuel Data Center of the U.S. Department of Energy, Biodiesel yields 3.2 gallons of fuel for every 1 gallon used to produce it. Biodiesel is truly a sustainable form of energy, solar power in a liquid fuel. |
